And it drives! Albeit the steering doesn't go back to center when turning. Anyone know how to make lego steering that actually works?

I think there's a motor that turns X degrees in either direction and then resets itself. That might be the only option other than tank steering.

Yeah, that would be a servo motor, which is not a bad idea, but I do not have one and they're like $30. I just now found a youtube video on how to make it work with a normal motor

Neat :) I made one of these a while ago with a 2-speed crash gearbox and a proper differential. Needs another motor really to get out of its own way, but it'll move under its own steam.
Next step is either another motor driving the other side and then maybe a chain drive straight from the output of the gearbox to the crown wheel on the diff to reduce losses due to friction.
